British School Al Kubairat Abu Dhabi reviews

The British School Al Khubairat in Abu Dhabi (BSAK) information.

Add comments, opinions, reviews, updates about BSAK to this topic ...

Full name is "The British School - Al Khubairat" but sometimes spelt Kubairat. Usually abbreviated as BSAK but sometimes AKB for Al Khubairat British School. Was previously called The British Community School Al Khubairat, or the Al Khubairat Community School, or similar (sometimes the name seen on older maps). Located in Al Mushrif district, between Airport Rd and Al Karamah Rd. Same area as some of the churches in Abu Dhabi?

BSAK has a scheme where staff can complete a Masters Program in Education from the Liverpool Hope University.

Penta International completed an inspection of BSAK in March 2008. A couple of excerpts from the report:

The British School, Al Khubairat is a very good school with many outstanding features. At the time of the last inspection, the school was judged to be very effective: it has continued to grow and to flourish. The quality of education provided is very high.

Academic standards are high. Students attain levels above or well above government schools in England; standards also compare favourably with those of the independent sector in the UK.

The school is strongly supported by parents. Over 300 parents returned questionnaires to the inspection team: over 90% of responses were positive. Where there were issues identified, they were about the standards achieved by students in certain subjects, about the amount of homework given, and about the range of extra-curricular activities offered.

Secondary school Headteacher: Mr Stephen Rogers
Primary school Headteacher: Mr Mark Yeowell

Questions:

When was BSAK founded? January 1968 seen as one date, but BSAK website says established by Amiri decree in 1971. School had its 40th anniversary celebrations in March 2008? So in Abu Dhabi, 1971 + 40 = 2008? Must be a timezone thing  ...
How many teachers?
What is teacher salary scale and benefits package? Previous information was AED 12k-18k per month but not sure how correct that was.

BSAK Al Khubairat principal resigns

Postby shawarma » 17 May 2014, 13:43

Well he didn't last long. New head was announced in September 2012 as Dr Christopher Ray from the UK, started September 2013 ... and finished 15 May 2014 by the sounds of it according to letter sent by BSAK.

... the Board of Governors have today accepted the resignation of Dr. Ray from his position as Headmaster, to take place with immediate effect

BSAK is a very biased school. They admit ethnic minorities, but do not create an ethos of equality. They treat some minorities unfairly. If there is bullying reported and it is an ethnic minority, they tend to disregard it, and not take it seriously.. I have a child in that school and there have been many instances of inequality and bullying that have not tackled.
