Emirates College for Educational Development (ECED)

Postby shawarma » 03 Dec 2007, 15:59

A new college being set up in Abu Dhabi to offer teaching degrees. Not clear if this is for Emiratis / Arab nationals to become teachers in Government Schools, or a teaching qualification for schools worldwide. May also be referred to as the 'Education Development College'. See also information on DubaiFAQs.com for Emirates College for Educational Development.

Article from WAM (Emirates News Agency):

College to foster academic excellence
5 July 2007

Abu Dhabi: President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued, in his capacity as the Ruler of Abu Dhabi, a law instituting the Emirates College for Educational Development (ECED).

The law stipulates that the College, to be based in the capital, will be an autonomous body enjoying full administrative and financial independence.

The ECED will have a right to open branches in different parts of the UAE based on recommendations from the Abu Dhabi Education Council.

The College aims at bringing academic excellence to educational institutions by way of offering high quality training programmes and certificate courses for teachers and heads of educational institutions in the UAE, other Gulf countries and the Middle East.

The College will provide courses and certificates ranging from undergraduate degrees upto the doctorate level. A six-member Board of Trustees will be responsible for the running and supervision of the College and will have a tenure of three years, renewable for a similar period.

The Board will have a Chairman and will hold periodic meetings.

Decisions will be taken by voting and the sub-committees will be formed from among the Trustees as per recommendations from the Abu Dhabi Education Council.

The Board of trustees will be responsible for formulating the general policy of the College, evolving syllabi for various programmes, evaluating achievements of students, issuing certificates and administrative by-laws, endorsing financial plans and appointing teaching and non-teaching staff.

The College will have an annual budget, to be approved by the Board of Trustees.

Emirates College for Advanced Education

Postby shawarma » 04 Sep 2010, 21:06

It looks like Emirates College for Educational Development (ECED) was renamed as the Emirates College for Advanced Education (ECAE) when it was founded in September 2007?

ECAE offers BEd degrees and a PGDE (PostGraduate Diploma of Education). Sounds similar to a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate of Education), but I don't know what the difference is. ECAE curriculum was imported from Singapore - maybe just a difference the name of the qualification?
