Unlimited contract renewal in UAE how long for no ban?

Postby mohan » 07 Jan 2015, 23:57

Dear Shawarma,

My visa is an unlimted contract visa. I would like to know if I renew my unlimited visa again what is the time period that I have to stay in this unlimited visa for not to having a ban? I mean if I get a good opportunity when I can quit my job without ban? Could you please specify in this regard?

That sounds confusing.

An unlimited contract is not renewable, it is indefinite and continues until it is terminated, by you or your employer.

An unlimited visa doesn't exist in the UAE. A residence visa is usually valid for 2 or 3 years at a time and can be renewed indefinitely as long as you have a valid reason for having one (a job for example).

An automatic 6 month labour ban is applied if you quit a job within the first two years when you have an unlimited or indefinite contract. If you resign within the first year, or the contract is a fixed term, then you might get a one year labour ban. If you resign between 1 and 2 years, and you go to a job with a minimum salary dependent on qualifications, then you might not get a ban or might be able to get it lifted - see the reference page about employment bans in the UAE.

Or if you transfer to another job with the same sponsor you should avoid getting a ban (within the same free zone for example).
