Outside the UAE how long residence visa valid?

Postby Analyn » 09 Jan 2015, 13:18

Dear Sir,

I'm working in Dubai for almost five years, my contract will end on May 10, 2016. Since Sept. 1, 2014 I am here in my country and my visa is not yet cancelled because It was a vacation only but there's an emergency happened here in my country that I need to stay. I'm planning to come back this February 27, 2014, is there any possibility that the immigration will not accept me? If I will not come back, what will happen to my visa? Can I apply again for visit visa after 6 months? Thank you and God bless!

Regards,

A UAE residence visa becomes invalid if the holder stays out of the country for more than 6 months.

If you left 01 Sep 2014 and plan to return 27 Feb 2015, then that sounds like you are just within the 6 month period. However, a month according to the immigration department in the UAE is usually 30 days, so 6 months is 180 days, and that means you are probably a few days after the cut off date. You have these choices.

1. Calculate 01 Sep 2014 + 180 days, include departure and arrival day, and make sure you return before that date.

2. Take a risk that immigration won't worry about an extra couple of days. I wouldn't recommend this though.

3. Contact immigration - the DNRD in Dubai is probably the most helpful, either email or phone, explain you had an emergency at home, and can they extend the 6 month period before it expires so you can enter the country without any problem.

Note that expiry is not the same as cancelled. When a residence visa becomes invalid, it is not automatically cancelled, and will prevent you from getting any new visa until you get it cancelled.
