[List] Nurseries in Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO)

Postby Explorer » 03 Nov 2009, 16:33

We are planning to move to Dubai Silicon Oasis and I need to find a pre school nursery for my little one who will be turning 3 this December.

Which are the international schools with IB curriculum located near to Silicon Oasis (with affordable school fees).

Does the School transportation come to this area.

DSO schools and nurseries

[edit] Scroll down a couple of posts for Mar 2016 updated reply with nurseries opened in DSO. [/edit]

Hello Explorer,

1. I don't think the IB curriculum applies to nursery or pre-school level education. IB have the Primary Years Program (PYP) which starts from Grade 1 or Year 1 AFAIK.

2. Schools in Dubai arrange transportation for students so if a school is in or near DSO, then yes you could expect they will have suitable transportation for you.

3. Here are some schools in or near Dubai Silicon Oasis that I can think of (information pages have ratings and fees information if available). Have included international, UK, and US curriculum schools - I'm not sure it matters so much at that age which English speaking curriculum is followed.

http://www.dubaifaqs.com/repton-school-dubai.php - Repton School Dubai in Nad Al Sheba area (across Emirates Road from DSO). Expensive but is IB.
http://www.dubaifaqs.com/wellington-academy-dubai.php - Wellington Academy, new school, not open until September 2010

Mirdif has a few schools which could be of interest

http://www.dubaifaqs.com/royal-dubai-school.php - Expensive, UK curriculum.
http://www.dubaifaqs.com/star-international-school-mirdiff.php - Expensive, UK curriculum.
http://www.dubaifaqs.com/uptown-school.php - Expensive, UK curriculum. Has IBPYP (IB Primary Years Program).

There are more but those are probably the best three.

4. Nurseries near DSO. I don't know of any in DSO itself, or Dubai Academic City, but there are some in Mirdiff which is not too far away.

Emirates British Nursery
Small Steps Nursery
SuperKids Nursery - cheaper than the schools.
Yellow Brick Road Nursery Dubai

In the other direction along Emirates Road is Arabian Ranches which has a couple of nurseries

Polo Village Nursery - cheaper than the schools.
Raffles Nursery Arabian Ranches branch - expensive.

5. You can also search the Dubai school and nursery directories for more possibilities.

6. I forgot when I first posted, there are a couple of schools in Al Warqa'a which is between DSO and Mirdiff. I don't think they're as well regarded as the three Mirdiff schools though.

International School of Arts and Sciences - cheaper
International Academic School Dubai - cheapest
Sharjah American School Dubai - cheapest

Thanks a lot for your response.

What is your opinion about Deira international school, is this regarded as a good school?
what is the fee structure like?
...also does the school have a mix of students from different nationalities?

Deira International School

http://www.dubaifaqs.com/deira-international-school.php - fees about AED 28,995-58,420 for 2009-2010.

If you're considering Dubai Festival City, there's also the Universal American School in DFC with an IB curriculum in senior years, and fees range of 26,100-61,040 dhs.

Both schools probably deserve a better than the "acceptable" KHDA rating they received last year (but that's a very unqualified opinion). I'd guess Good rather than Outstanding. I think both schools have a reasonable mix of nationalities.

Update to this topic. There are now some nurseries in the DSO area:

http://www.dubaifaqs.com/kensington-nursery-silicon-oasis.php, open Feb 2012, in Cedre Villas.

http://www.dubaifaqs.com/british-orchard-nursery-silicon-oasis.php, open Feb 2013, central DSO (British Orchard, not British Orchid Nursery).

http://www.dubaifaqs.com/toddlers-international-nursery-dso.php, open Dec 2015, central DSO.

BON and TIN are opposite each other in DSO, in towers on main Choithrams roundabout. Interestingly, both BON and TIN also have a branch near each other in Al Mankhool.

http://www.dubaifaqs.com/blossom-nursery-dubai-academic-city.php, Blossom Nursery is not in DSO proper, but not so far away in Academic City, and easier to get to than anywhere else outside DSO.

Other nurseries mentioned as being in Silicon Oasis, but aren't:

http://www.dubaifaqs.com/kids-zone-nursery-dubai.php, Kids Zone is not in DSO but is nearby in The Villa, Dubailand. But trying to cross the Al Ain Rd to get there makes it less nearby than you might think, and walking there is pretty much impossible.

http://www.dubaifaqs.com/chubby-cheeks-nursery-skycourts.php, Chubby Cheeks say they're in "Dubailand - Dubai Silicon Oasis" but they're not. Although looking at the map, their location in Skycourts towers looks close enough on the other side of the Al Ain Rd. Again, trying to get there you'll discover it's not as nearby as you think (no way can you walk from DSO). And certainly don't believe their map, they think they're in Jebel Ali. Their location description is confusing, it's correct they're in Dubailand, but saying they're in DSO Tower C sounds odd since there isn't any such place. They're in Skycourt or Skycourts Tower C.

http://www.dubaifaqs.com/dovecote-nursery-jumeirah.php, comment seen that they have a branch in DSO but their only branch in Dubai is nowhere near DSO. No information about any new branch coming up in DSO. As of March 2016 they have a branch in Jumeirah, and one in Muscat Oman.

To read or add reviews and comments about individual nurseries, see their respective forum topics (linked from pages above).

Any other nurseries in DSO not listed above?
