hi, i have heard of some people who were detained in uae immigration airport while leaving for a vacation in their home country. What could be the grounds in detaining them? thanks.

Outstanding bank loans or credit card debts.
Outstanding traffic fines. Probably has to be a high amount to result in passenger being detained.
Not having a valid legal visa to be in the UAE.
Overstaying a visit or tourist visa to the UAE. Usually detention is just for however long it takes for you to find the money in your wallet, but if you can't pay ...
Outstanding arrest warrant from the police.
Absconding complaint filed against you by your employer.
Suspicion of illegal activity.
Suspicion of carrying drugs or other material banned in the UAE.

That's not a full list, just some examples. In other words there are many reasons why you might be detained by immigration at an airport in the UAE.
