  • The Woman in Black is a Dickensian ghost story based on a novel by Susan Hills, written in 1983
  • Stage adaptation is by Stephen Mallatratt
  • Directed by John Payton
  • Actors include David Seddon & James Clarkson
  • The play has been seen by more than 3 million people in over 40 countries
  • The story starts in Crythin Gifford on the east coast of England where a Mrs Alice Drablow died in Eel Marsh House, looking over the Nine Lives Causeway. Arthur Kipps, a junior solicitor, travels from London to sort out her papers. At the funeral, he sees a mysterious young woman dressed in black (not surprising really since it was a funeral) and that kicks off the great mystery. Who is she? Where did she come from? Where is she going? What color underwear does she wear? And so on. Well, 3 million people enjoyed ... er ... were frightened by it.
