Gulf CV Specialists

Postby shawarma on 13 Mar 2009, 13:11

Gulf CV Specialists (www. gulfcvspecialists.com, not Gulf CV Specialist or www. gulfcvspecialist.com) appear to be a service offering to write CVs for you, and adapting them to a "Dubai style", what ever that means (that in itself puts me off straight away). Someone enquired about them in a post about Teleport My Job ...

cocobelle1 wrote:When I called GulfCVSpecialists on a local number and asked a few questions one of the customer service agents based in India told me I would have to pay $498.00 to format my CV the Dubai style.

Is TeleportMyJob.com and GulfCVSpecialists.com an employment scam? Can you check them out please.

$500 sounds expensive to do a CV, then again, good quality consultancy services of whatever sort will cost that sort of money for a a few hours or less of work/talk. Personally I wouldn't bother, I'd suggest buying a good CV book and writing it yourself. Although that's more time consuming, it means it's your own work and you'll be better prepared to talk about yourself and your CV when you get to a job interview. Here's some Dubai CV information which is free (but if you want to send me $500 then you're more than welcome to ;)). Searching the Google reveals enough unhappy comments about Gulf CV Specialist services, with a few calling them a scam, that even if I was going to spend good money on getting someone to write a CV for me, I'd do a bit more searching first.

I paid that amount and am pleased with the result. My cv used to be 10 pages and recruiters kept on having remarks and questions that made clear that my cv was not clear ...

Now it is 2 pages, condensed, good overview ...

I already don't care anymore whether they help me to a job in dubai or not. Rewriting my cv was worth that money.

I am stefaan luckermans. Owener of Thaste IT - www.thaste.org and in no way affiliated to gulfcvspecialist ...

I also paid that amount and I am not quiet pleased with the result. My cv used to be 6 pages and I thought it was adequate, I got most of the jobs I applied for.

Now it is 2 pages, condensed, good overview but I am not entirely happy, as more changes have to be made. I would like to know if all the cv’s look the same with the same format and so on?
But get this; to increase my chances of finding a job for me, they have asked me to get a second cv to target a different industry, alas with more costs involved…..! :?
Well, I want to see some results first, they are quick in taking my money and I am thinking that all of this is a scam….
Is there anybody who actually found a job through this recruitment agency?
Is there any success rate and has there been any results at all?

Regards,
Napoleon

How many pages for a Dubai CV?

Postby shawarma on 11 Nov 2009, 15:17

Hello Napoleon and welcome to the Dubai job forums :).

1. Personally, I think 6 pages is too much for a CV. Two pages sounds about right.

2. It also makes sense to have different CVs for different jobs and/or industries, to emphasise strengths that are appropriate, and play down or delete items that are not relevant.

3. A "Dubai CV" doesn't really exist. The best CVs are the ones that get you a job interview, and need to be tailored to the job and the potential employer. Give them what they want, not what you think they should have.

As for your other questions, I haven't personally tried to find a job or have a CV rewritten with Gulf CV Specialists so I can't really say any more than what is in my first post. Good luck with your job search however you do it. A couple of information pages that might help you:

Hello Shawarma,
Thank you for your welcome.

After gulf specialists tried numerous times quite adamant to convince me to have a second CV written, I have decided not to go with the CV since I don’t have much experience in this particular field.
I have explained to the woman that I rather stick to what I know and do not want to precede with the second CV. She changed her tone abruptly and quite rude she said “So you don’t want to proceed, ok then...” and hung up on me!
They still have to finish my current CV until I give my final ok, then they will send it out to various agencies.
Here is a copy to what services are include.

Services Ordered: Professional CV + Cover Letter + CV Distribution + Personal Job Hunt Manager
Amount Paid for Services: US$ 605

We live in hope

Thank you,
Napoleon
