UAE Western Region to boom

Postby shawarma on 03 Dec 2007, 14:50

More students for Ruwais Chouiefat? More teachers needed? And there'll be a new shopping center...

From Emirates Today 13 May 2007...
Western Region set for boom
EMIRATES TODAY STAFF

Developers in Abu Dhabi’s Western Region are gearing up to fight for a share of the tourism market over the next few years.

The area has a number of potential attractions – not least 230 kilometres of beautiful coastline, which at present is inaccessible to beach lovers.

There is, however, a huge shortage of facilities – the entire coast has just two hotels and one of them is in urgent need of renovation.

Much of the desert is covered with electricity pylons and oil drills – even Liwa oasis has only one hotel.

But large-scale infrastructure development plans are about to open up the area, said Mohammed Hamed Al Mazrouei, the DirectorGeneral of the Western Region Development Council.

“There is the sea, the desert and all the ingredients for a good formula – plenty of opportunities for all kinds of investment,” he added.

“The Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority is developing attractions on Sir Bani Yas and Delma islands, as well as at other hot spots in the region. The results will be visible in four or five years’ time.” Al Mazrouei is leading a roadshow across the region, meeting residents, explaining the development plans and seeking their opinions.

One project already under way in Al Ruwais, one of the area’s seven towns, is the building of the community’s first mall.

There are also plans to upgrade the E11 road from Ras Al Khaimah to Gheweifat in the Western Region. Al Mazrouei said: “We want to invest in people. We want to improve educational institutions, health facilities, and cultural and leisure avenues.

“There is an urgent need to improve the higher education facilities in this area – the only university is the Higher Colleges of Technology in Madinat Zayed.

“We need to impart vocational training, such as a technical institute run by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company or hospitality colleges run by tourism organisations.”

Ruwais and SABIS

Postby shawarma on 23 Aug 2009, 16:19

Hello Zahra and welcome to the Abu Dhabi and Ruwais forums :).

Sorry, I'm afraid I don't know much about Ruwais. It's a small town that mostly supports some petrochemical industries in that area, and is quite a drive from Abu Dhabi. You might consider trying to get a live-in maid from an agency based in Abu Dhabi where there's more choice. Forums like abudhabiwoman.com have a good bit of activity and could be helpful for you.

SABIS schools generally have a reputation of being quite rigid and demanding, for both students and teachers. If you search through some of the other forums on the internet, you should find a few comments that might be useful. Choueifat certainly attracts its fair share of complaints, and the SABIS PPP in Abu Dhabi certainly came in for some flak, but the Ruwais Choeifat School might be a little more easy going as it's out in the sticks.
