Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) University is a private university established in February 2006 to provide aviation and aerospace courses, and is one of six Dubai Aerospace Enterprises subsidiary companies. First courses were launched in October 2006. DAEU expects to have up to 6,500 students by 2020 in programs designed to produce aerospace industry personnel that can move into one of the DAE subsidiaries, which are:

• DAE Capital (aircraft leasing and finance)
• DAE Engineering (maintenance, repair, and overhaul of aircraft)
• DAE Manufacturing (airframe or engine original equipment manufacturer)
• DAE Airports (design, build, and operate airports)
• DAE Services (application systems provider and technology incubator/accelerator in aviation and aerospace)

The National reported on 10/11 September 2008 that Dubai Aerospace University had closed. Really?

Raymi van der Spek, UOWD vice president, said: “Competition is important. It helps everybody to improve. But there have got to be some checks and balances.
“We run the risk that some of the new universities, in their haste to establish, undermine what the more established institutions are trying to achieve.”

The sector has already seen casualties. The University of Southern Queensland closed its Dubai Knowledge Village campus in 2005 after a year, and Dubai Aerospace Enterprise University shut down recently, also after a year. Some universities have struggled to attract students. George Mason University introduced degree courses at its Ras al Khaimah campus in 2006 with only 40 students, a fifth of the number expected. Student numbers have grown, but recruitment remains “challenging”.

And in May 2008 DAEU were doing so well, apparently. They won some advertising awards according to a press release. So if they did close, where's their press release saying so? I can't find any other report but DAEU are no longer listed as an accredited organisation with the MoHESR (they received accreditation in April 2008 for some of their courses), and the DAEU website is redirecting to a DAE Flight Academy website.

Anyone have any further information, or comments about DAE University? I've seen one comment that DAE students were transferred to Emirates Aviation College. Is that correct?
