Greenfield Community School GCS reviews

Postby shawarma » 03 Dec 2007, 17:15

Greenfield Community School (GCS) - information from GCS is a new school in Dubai opening end of September 2007. As of July 2007 they say construction is progressing to schedule. There was a hiccup in June 2007 with some problems between the contractor and their employees but that was quickly resolved apparently. School will operate from the Courtyard Marriott initially until the building construction is complete.

Greenfields Community School is managed by Beacon Education and Madaares, who have a shared vision of establishing "high quality international schools".

GCS IBPYP candidacy confirmed

Postby shawarma » 03 Dec 2007, 17:16

GCS have announced confirmation of their candidacy for International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IBPYP). There was a press release 07 August 2007 (complete with spelling mistake - always good to point them out to centers of learning ;) ) confirming the status. Nothing said about the Middle Years Program / Programme (IBPYP). GCS have "candidate" status which I don't think is the same as being an "accredited" IB school. The regional director of the IBO said it was a "trial implementation". Press release also said GCS would open September 2007.

Greenfield Community School, Beacon Education's latest educational venture, announced that it recently received candidate status from the International Baccalaureate Organization for its Primary Years Programme (PYP).

The IBO's Regional Director, Nélida Antuña Baragaño, is thrilled with the recent surge of interest in the IB porgrammes across the Emirates. "We are delighted to see the growth in interest in IB programmes in the United Arab Emirates since the first school we authorised as an IB World School in 1992. These IB World Schools share the mission and commitment of the IB to international education and play an active and supporting role in the worldwide community of IB schools. We wish the Greenfield Community School the best of luck in their trial implementation of the IB Primary Years Programme as a candidate school," she commented.

Greenfield Community School GCS

Postby shawarma » 03 Dec 2007, 19:13

GCS details updated based on email received from Beacon Education. GCS offers International Baccalaureate (IB) - Middle Years Program (MYP) and Primary Years Program (PYP). Beacon had a paragraph of nice words about the school, things like tolerance, belonging, meaning, contribution, etc. With the result that students would grow into "bright and shining lights." Get those sprogs booked in now before the lights go dim ;)...

How many students, staff at GCS?
What is salary scale and benefits for teachers?

Any other comments from teachers, parents, or students about studying or working at GCS? Add them here :)...

Anyone sending their children to GCS? We are looking into admission for Grade 1 for 2012. Interested in IB curriculum. We are in the Dubai Marina. So wondering how the commute will be to the school during school hours. Also how happy are the parents with their kids going to school there? Any negatives to be considered? Appreciate valuable input. Thanks
