A press release from the Franco-Lebanese Educational and Cultural Association / Association Franco Libanaise pour l'Education et la Culture (AFLEC) in June 2003 announced the establishment of the AFLEC French schools in Dubai and Abu Dhabi (Lycée Francais de L'AFLEC), with French the main language but teaching in English and Arabic also so that students would be expected to become trilingual. Students of any nationality can apply to attend. The new AFLEC schools were not intended to be competition for the already existing French schools in the UAE, but would be supported by them. They include:
Dubai French School - Lycee Georges Pompidou in Ruwayyah
Sharjah French School - Lycee Georges Pompidou primaire de Sharjah, and the Dubai branch - Lycee Georges Pompidou Dubai.
