Getting married in Dubai

Marriage in Dubai - dubaifaqs.com info

There's a question mark about whether or not you need a residence visa to get married in Dubai, depending on nationality, religion, and who is getting married.

To get a marriage recognized in the Sharia Court, the husband at least needs a residence visa, and must be a Muslim. Does the wife also need one?

Can Christians get married in a church with visit visas? It appears that is possible. Church ministers may even attend hotels and other locations to marry Christians.

What about other religions? Bahai, Buddhists, Hindus, Sikh can go to their embassies (or consulates) to get married apparently, but do they need residence visas?

Can anyone confirm any of the above?

Pre-marriage certificates UAE

Postby shawarma on 23 Jun 2008, 12:31

Pre-marriage certificates can only be obtained from government hospitals, and Ministry of Health medical centers, according to the Khaleej Times 29 December 2007. This is apparently to reduce the number of fraudulent certificates being issued.

The law requiring the medical check / health test for both UAE nationals and expats was implemented 19 November 2005, so that brides and grooms can produce a certificate showing they are free of infectious diseases. Which diseases the checkup tests for, were not listed in the report, but there was a comment that it was important to talk about diabetes and cardiac problems before marriage.

The report also quoted Dr Abdulnassir Abu Al Basal, Dean of Islamic Studies and Shariah College in Sharjah University, saying that “Any person who is affected by the partner’s sickness can demand dissolution of marriage,”

Pre-marriage certificates from govt hosp. only

DUBAI — By the end of January next year eligible bachelors who wish to get married will have to produce pre-marriage medical fitness certificates issued by government hospitals and health centres affiliated to the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Shariah courts countrywide. Certificates issued by private clinics will not be accepted, said Minister of Health Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qutami in an exclusive statement to Khaleej Times.

Salam aleikum,
I have questions about marriage in Dubai. That I want to get married in Dubai and I wanted to know do I have to get my blood test (and what exactly they need? ) here in Estonia or I have to do it in Dubai, before I get married? And do I also need that medical fitness certification, because I did read about it but I didn't understand does it apply also to foreigners ? And what kind of other documents I need besides my birth certification and no objection letter (that I'm not married here)?
If someone can help me with that then it will be great.

Salam aleikum

Hi marEst and welcome to the Dubai forums :).

If you're not resident in the UAE, you might not be able to get married anyway. I've seen conflicting information about that so I'm not sure myself now.

1. I think you have to get the blood test done in Dubai.
2. Medical certificate is the blood test as far as I know.
3. Best to check with the Estonian embassy in the UAE, or the nearest Estonian embassy to see if there's anything different from the usual documentation.

Good luck and congratulations :).
