Safa School or Safa Private School is a sister school to Horizon School and was opened on the old Horizon School premises in September 2004. Not clear if same management/head for both schools.

Foreign schools dept officials upset about bypassing them

DUBAI - Some officials of the Foreign Schools Department of the Education Ministry are allegedly perturbed that the Ministry's Under Secretary apparently bypassed it in asking the Dubai Education Zone (DEZ) to "let off an errant private school with a mild warning". The Director of the Department said she was surprised to see a letter written by Dr Jamal Al Muhairi, the Under Secretary to the DEZ, referring to her letter on the violations committed by the Horizon School.

The Under Secretary in his letter wanted the DEZ to continue to process the school's documents as "there is no objection on the processing of the school's documents with only a mild rebuke to the school warning it never to repeat the violation again". The Horizon School had along with Al Safa School committed several violations, including the registration of students of Al Safa School on the register of the Horizon School.

The Department is said to have expressed its reservation over the issue and written a letter requesting the Ministry and the DEZ not to approve the Horizon School's result register for the current academic year until the school administration came up with a tangible explanation for the violations.

In another development, the Department is preparing a letter instructing the DEZ to issue a warning to the proprietor (licence holder) of the school over the violations the school has committed and asking her to rectify the discrepancies within the period stipulated by the rules.

The Department would also suggest that DEZ to ensure that the school administration terminates the appointment of Marion Caroline Sinclair as school principal as she is a partner of the school's licence owner. The letter will urge the school to find a substitute to Sinclair and cancel the names of the 279 students, who are also on the register of the Al Safa School. The school would be advised to keep in order the admission forms of all its 373 students and send their copy to the Ministry.

The department would want the school to furnish it with a copy of the appointment letters of all its teachers handling the three compulsory subjects and a copy of a report from the supervisory body showing that the school complies fully with the curricula, syllabi and text books.

The Department would demand complete separation of boys from girls of grades 5 and 6 in school blocks, classrooms, playgrounds and school buses, reassessment of the administrative and teaching staff, an evaluation of their credentials to ensure that they are genuine and renew their appointment letters and justify the school fees increase.
