Dubai Police Museum

Postby shawarma on 01 Mar 2008, 12:29

Dubai Police Museum was reported as having reopened on Thursday 28 February 2008, after a fire gutted the old one 2 years previously (2006?). Location is the General Headquarters (GHQ) of the Dubai Police. Opening hours are 8am to 2pm on weekdays (Sunday-Thursday), closed on public holidays and Fri/Sat.

To visit, apply online at the Dubai Police website www.dubaipolice.gov.ae - LH menu has Dubai Police Museum link, then look at "Visit Timings" page for online application. At the time of this post, it says they're not accepting requests though  . Try contacting them on tel +971-4-2692222 ext 3293, or visit the photos page and then you don't need to go for a visit.

Dubai Police Museum first opened 19 November 1987 according to DP website, but 1993 or 1991 according to Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamimi (Dubai Police Chief) in the press report about it opening again on Thursday. He said it had been open for 15 years.

Dubai Police force was established in 1956.

Museum exhibits

  • Photograph of the first Dubai Policeman
  • Weapons used by the police force
  • Police station equipment
  • Drug enforcement history
  • Products made by prisoners in Dubai (not just number plates - they make boats and furniture too apparently). Might make a change from visiting IKEA.
  • Traffic campaign history
