Bastakiya, or Bastakia / Bastikia (I think the first spelling is more correct, does anyone know?) is a great spot to visit. Since restoration started in the late 1990s - possibly earlier - a bunch of art galleries have sprung up, along with cafes and restaurants, a couple of hotels, and of course various restored historical buildings. A surprisingly quiet area to walk around, and yet very close to the hustle and bustle of downtown Bur Dubai along the creek. Bastakia is a piece of Dubai history that is highly recommended for a visit. Don't forget to wander through the Dubai Museum in the Al Fahedi Fort nearby.
