Uptown High School - DubaiFAQs.com information

Uptown High School is the continuation of Uptown School, or Uptown Primary School (they seem to regularly change from one to the other) into grades 6-10 and eventually grades 11-12 with the well-respected IB curriculum in place. The IB Middle Years Program (IB MYP) up to grade 10, and IB Diploma Program (IB DP) for grades 11 and 12. No obvious information on the school website about when grades 11 & 12 will start but presumably the grade 10 students for 2008-2009 Academic Year will continue to grade 11 which would imply grade 11 starts in September 2009, and grade 12 in September 2010 (that's how most schools usually do it).

Uptown High is in Muhaisnah - between Mirdiff and Ghusais / Qusais, on the Sharjah side of Dubai Airport. See also Uptown Primary School - forum topic

I enquired at Uptown about schooling for my kids - one in year 5 and another in year 6. This schools fee structure beggars belief. Kids in year 5 at Uptown Primary pay around AED35000 per year but for year 6 at Uptown Secondary the school fees jump an astronomical AED19000 to around AED54000. So thats a AED19000 jump in one year! Which planet are these people from? Parents at their open day seemed to share the same concern...

One can easily draw parallels between their skewed view of reality and the way their school building sticks out in the Muhaisnah surrounds. As far as I could tell it looks that part of Muhaisnah is being developed for labour housing - there were dozens of featureless apartment buildings with labourer buses lining the road to and from that location.

Where will the greed end in Dubai...

Uptown High fees

Postby shawarma on 17 Mar 2009, 11:24

Hello zwoot, welcome to the Dubai forums, and thanks for your comments :). Yes, that seems to be quite a jump in fees. A couple of other schools in the area that might be cheaper (but not much) are:

Star International School in Mirdif which I understand will eventually expand to Grade 12
Mizhar American Academy - for girls only
Royal Dubai School

There's also the much cheaper Modern Skills School but that is an Arabic curriculum school with an English section and is unlikely to appeal to parents or students wanting Western qualifications and curriculums.

thanks for the links - I'll check them out.

You'd have thought the government would step in and stop these organisations from fleecing their expat workforce.

Saw your post earlier today and just sent you a PM. For a while I thought I was on my own. I agree Uptown High is a ripoff and wot's with that location? They have a strange bunch of wannabe's running the place also - out of touch with reality. I'm looking for alternative schools now.

Hey zwoot and frogger, do u have any schools for me to check out for my sons? i totally agree for their location and facilities uptown high is overpriced. with the economic situation in dubai, schools should be giving deductions in their tuitions.can someone explain to me if the rents are going down, why should tutions go up? how can the KHDA allow schools to raise tuitions when most people are struggling to pay the current tuitions?i just don't get it, the whole thing is absurd. do these schools want to risk being closed because of low enrollment and then the teachers will be out of jobs and families will have to leave? that's the problem, greed, get rich fast as you can. all schools should review their accounts and make the necessary changes before its too late. also, did u know that taaleem schools do not give deductions if you have more than one child enrolled, and i have 4 children enrolled in taaleem schools.

Uptown High nearby schools

Postby shawarma on 26 Mar 2009, 11:44

Hello Naser and welcome to the Dubai forums :).

This topic is about Uptown High school. Discussions about Taaleem or general school fees should be started separately. For nearby schools, see the Uptown High information, there will be a list there. Or look at the list of Dubai schools and choose options to filter by curriculum, level etc and sort by fees to easily find cheaper schools.
